Follow ancient Silk Road arteries through apricot orchards and clay-walled villages, where craftspeople still weave patterns unchanged for a thousand years.

Thread through the seven rust-red buttes of Jeti-Ögüz, a landscape so vivid it looks hand-painted, then descend into the Flower Meadow — Kyrgyzstan's most celebrated sub-alpine valley.

Wander through one of the world's largest wild walnut forests — a UNESCO-recognised biosphere reserve — past sacred springs and tiny Uzbek-Kyrgyz hamlets clinging to steep hillsides.

Years on foot
I grew up in the ancient city of Osh, at the foot of Sulaiman-Too, where the Silk Road once hummed with traders and wanderers from every corner of the world. That sense of movement — of roads that go somewhere real, somewhere worth arriving — never left me. After years of working as a geography teacher in the Fergana Valley, I began walking the passes and valleys I had only ever described on a blackboard. What I found changed everything: trails unmarked on any map, villages unreachable by car, grazing grounds that open like secrets in the high summer. I started writing it all down.
This project — rooted in Osh and spreading outward across every oblast from Batken to Naryn — is my attempt to give those routes a permanent record. Not a glossy travel brochure, but honest, detailed documentation: elevation profiles, seasonal access notes, water sources, and the human stories living along the way. Kyrgyzstan deserves to be known for more than its postcard peaks. I write for the traveller who wants to go deeper, stay longer, and arrive with real knowledge rather than wishful thinking. Every route on this site I have walked myself.

Just forty kilometres south of Bishkek, the Ala-Archa National Park conceals one of Central Asia's most rewarding overnight circuits. The trail climbs from juniper scrub into a raw world of scree and glacier melt, rewarding those who push past the first valley with views that feel untouched by modernity.

Son-Kul is not a secret — every traveller who has stood on its shore understands immediately why Kyrgyz herders have returned here each summer for centuries. What remains underreported is the three-day loop along its full shoreline, a route that passes four distinct jailoo communities, reveals the lake's shifting moods across morning and evening light, and asks nothing more of you than patience and sturdy boots.

The Seven Bulls rock formation near Karakol has appeared on enough postcards to risk feeling overfamiliar. But spend a single long day walking the two valleys that fold in behind those famous red cliffs and you will find terrain that the photo stops never hint at — intimate gorges thick with spruce, meadows scattered with wild peonies in June, and a river crossing that feels like a genuine commitment.
